As
a professional audio engineer,
I've mixed and recorded literally hundreds of artists over the years.
But there's an unusual (and delightful) problem I've had with Pete's
music: whether I like it or not, his songs have become permanently
imprinted in my mind. You know, when you're driving, or thinking about
nothing in particular, a song pops into your head. Well, for me, in
the last couple of years since I first did sound for Pete,
it's mainly his songs that creep up on me when I don't expect it.
Funny thing is, usually the song is relevant to whatever's been going
on in my life at the time: as a sound-bloke, words are usually the
last thing I take notice of; usually I'm thinking about EQ, or compression,
or whether this thing or that thing is in tune but Pete's
words seem to come from somewhere else... simple, evocative
and catchy, on one level, but on a deeper level the songs get right
down into the heart of human experience.and there they sit, just waiting,
and then a phrase or two jumps out and gives you a little message,
or an answer to a question. Often the answer tells you that your question
wasnít really worth asking in the first place. Life is actually
very simple and beautiful and good. Don't believe me? Just listen.
Like it or not, Pete will change your life but only in a good way.
